On9June,theUNGeneralAssemblyelectedSwitzerlandasanon-permanentmemberoftheUNSecurityCouncilforatwo-yearperiodfrom1Januaryto31December.Duringitsterm,Switzerlandwilluseitsstrengthstopromotepeaceandsecurityandpositionitselfasaneutralbridge-builder,andpromoteitsintereststhroughdirectcontactwiththemajorplayersontheinternationalstage.SwitzerlandwillbeabletouseitsseatontheSecurityCounciltopromoteitsstancemorestronglyandthusexertinfluenceoninternationaldevelopmentsasacrediblepartner.

年6月9日，瑞士首次以票在联合国大会上获选联合国安理会/24年度非常任理事国，为期两年，自年1月1日至年12月31日。任期内，瑞士将利用自身优势促进和平与安全，在国际事务中扮演中立的"架桥人"角色，与主要相关方直接沟通，维护促进其价值观。瑞士在安理会的席位，将更有力地推广其立场，并作为一个值得信任的合作伙伴对国际发展产生影响力。
